It has been another eventful week in Hammies, filled with various activities and achievements. The week kicked off with a bustling Monday as the school hosted the 6th-year graduation mass. The occasion was a momentous one, with students donning their ... graduation gowns and celebrating their accomplishments. The event included the presentation of awards and a class photo, capturing memories to cherish for years to come. Following the mass, a gathering took place at the Munster Arms, where the U16 county medals were awarded to the team. The presence of esteemed individuals like John Cleary and Rory Magure, who addressed the young players, added a special touch to the evening, and their words of wisdom were greatly appreciated.
Wednesday brought yet another reason to celebrate as the U14 hurling team once again demonstrated their prowess by securing victory in the county final against Coachford College. This talented group of players continues to impress with their skills and promising potential, leaving spectators in awe of their exciting performances.
Friday came with the much-anticipated awards day. It was a joyous occasion as the exceptional students of Hammies were recognised for their outstanding achievements. Proudly calling themselves "Hammies boys," these individuals received well-deserved accolades in various categories. The event not only honoured their hard work and dedication but also served as a source of pride for others in the school community.
With the coming of next week we to enter the exam period, students will get to show how their efforts throughout the year has prepared them well for these assessments. Students were reminded by Ms. Foran at the awards ceremony for everyone to stay focused, manage their time effectively, and maintain a healthy balance between studying and self-care.

On Friday, the school witnessed the inaugural Sean Hamilton Cup game. Local primary schools were invited to compete for the trophy in a round-robin hurling/comogie blitz. The event was organized and run flawlessly, and the hard work put in by the organizers deserves commendation. The Sean Hamilton Cup served as a tribute to the late Sean Hamilton, and it was a fitting way to honour his memory.

The under 16 football team had a massive achievement by winning the top grade county final. The first half was closely contested with the team, nicknamed "Hammies," fighting against the wind. However, they managed to score an opening goal thanks to the efforts of Daniel Coughlan, and some great saves from goalkeeper Alan O'Regan kept them in the game.
The second half saw some great football, with both teams playing their hearts out. The game came down to the wire, but the Hammies managed to pull ahead with some great points from Humphrey Canty and Jack Hennigan. James O'Driscoll, the team's captain, led the backs along with Ben Coffey, ensuring a solid defense throughout the game.
This victory is a testament to the team's hard work and dedication, and they should be proud of their achievement. Congratulations to the Hammies under 16 football team on their impressive win.
On Thursday evening, the incoming 1st-year students and their parents attended an information evening. It was great to have the parents share in the first moments of their sons' time in Hammies, and we hope they enjoyed the experience as much as we did.
During the information session, the students had their first run out on the astro, where they participated in a friendly blitz. It was a great opportunity for the incoming students to get to know each other and to become familiar with the school's sporting environment.
The school is committed to providing opportunities for students to develop their athletic abilities and to encourage them to lead active and healthy lifestyles.
We look forward to welcoming the students back in August and beginning their Hammies journey.

The TYs continued their journey in gaining new skills as they followed up their barista training from earlier in the year by getting the qualification. It was a successful two days for them and they put in great effort throughout.
Wednesday was a busy day as the 5th years competed in the first Bandon soccer tournament. Although they narrowly missed out on winning the tournament, Peter Craig was awarded player of the tournament. The Lord Majors Cup was also on Thursday, and while the lads put in a great effort, they narrowly missed out on the win. Nevertheless, they showed great potential for the future.
On the same day, the U16 football team showed great resilience and determination as they battled many injuries to secure a fantastic win against Rochestown College. This win put them into the county A final, a great achievement.
Finally, on Friday, the 1st years had a great day out on their school tour to Fota. The weather held up, making the day even more enjoyable for everyone involved.
The committee for the upcoming tractor run on May 7th had another productive meeting this week. The members discussed various aspects of the event, including logistics, marketing, and volunteer recruitment. The committee is working hard to ensure that the tractor run is a success and raises funds for Pieta House and the Hamilton High School Development Fund.
